National Information System on Agricultural Education Network in India (NISAGENET)

The National Information System on Agricultural Education Network in India (NISAGENET) portal is being maintained at the Central Server of IASRI, New Delhi to provide Country/State/University/College level reporting on agricultural education in India.


On recommendations of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) and the Department of Secondary & Higher Education of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) approved NISAGENET project under its AP Cess Fund Scheme for a period of three years (01-01-2005 to 31-12-2007). With the support and supervision of the Education Division of ICAR, New Delhi, this project is being executed by the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute (IASRI), New Delhi as Lead Center having collaboration with universities involved in imparting higher agricultural education in India. In view of the importance of NISAGENET, ICAR has given approval for its execution and to maintain it as a regular ongoing activity of the council and it is mandatory for all the SAUs, AUs, Central Universities and Deemed Universities of ICAR to participate and provide the data as per requirements of this system. The major activities and the technical programme of the project are as follows:


  • Collection and compilation of data on Agricultural Education
  • Designing, Development and Implementation of NISAGENET software on the Internet
  • Country/State/University/College level reporting
  • To add and include newly established and left over agricultural universities

The NISAGENET lays emphasis on providing a unified information base for collection, compilation and analysis of information about the activities of the agricultural education system in India. Under NISAGENET broadly the information on Academic, Infrastructural facilities, Budget provision, Manpower and Research & Development activities of all the AU's and Deemed universities of ICAR along with their constituent/affiliated colleges would be collected, compiled and integrated at the country level.


The NISAGENET provides a unified information system for collection, compilation and analysis of data about the activities of the agricultural education system in India. Broadly Information on General & Academic Information of the Universities, Infrastructural facilities, Budget provision, Manpower employed, R&D activities of each and all the SAU's and Deemed universities of ICAR is made available.


  • To maintain the NISAGENET system on the Central Server for all the participating organizations.
  • To modify the existing architecture of the NISAGENET System.
  • To strengthen the NISAGENET and to add new modules/reports as per the requirements.
  • To add and include the newly established and left over agricultural universities into the system.
  • To provide software maintenance support to all the participating organizations.
  • NISAGENET will be an effective solution for the class of users varying from common man to the administrators and managers and will act as a comprehensive information source of Indian agricultural education system and HRD in agriculture
  • Anticipated Process/Products/Technology/Knowledge expected to be evolved
  • A process for university/college level decision support system would be created at the universities level
  • Establishment of a mechanism for periodically collection and updating of data related to Agricultural education
  • The System will act as a tool for decision making for agricultural education, research, development and manpower planning.
  • The statistical data would also be provided to Planners, Policy Makers, Administrators and others from time to time
  • Agrikhoj – a Search Engine for agricultural education
  • Directory – Classified information from NISAGENET
  • Discussion Forum – for sharing information
  • Reports / Queries – Dynamic Reports for user's

National Information System on Agricultural Education Network (NISAGENET) is an ongoing activity of the Education Division of ICAR and is mandatory for all the agricultural universities and their constituent/affiliated colleges to participate and provide the data as per requirements of this system. NISAGENET provides Country/ State / University/ College level reporting on agricultural education in India. The organisational Structure Network of NISAGENET is as follows:

  • The Coordinating Unit at Education Division of ICAR, New Delhi
  • The Lead Center of NISAGENET at IASRI, New Delhi
  • Discussion Forum – for sharing information
  • NISAGENET Units at each of the University engaged in providing Agricultural education in India. This include 63 Universities as mentioned below:
    • 53 - State Agricultural Universities in India
    • 5 - Deemed Universities of ICAR
    • 4 - Central Universities having Faculties on Agriculture
    • 1 - Central Agricultural University

Data is collected from all the constituent/affiliated colleges of these 63 Universities.

At each university nominated nodal officer is responsible for data upload from his respective university and its respective constituent/affiliated colleges. The responsibilities include:

  • Collection and compilation of the data from all concerned departments /sections of the university/colleges
  • Reliability of the Quality and Quantity of the data uploads into the system
  • On-line data entry, updating and uploading data to NISAGENET on regular basis

Two days workshop on "Appraisal cum data validation for Nodal Officers of NISAGENET" was organized during 20-21, Dec 2012 to view the quality and quantity of NISAGENET data uploading, validation of data and to appraise on revised schedules. Dr.C.Devakumar, ADG(EDP), ICAR, New Delhi released the compendium, Dr.R.Prabakaran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS delivered presidential address. A total no. of 26 nodal officers, Associate nodal officers & communication officers of NISAGENET scheme participated in this workshop
